Meet Mandy

I want to help you and your partner have a birth experience that is unique, positive, and even pleasurable!
Mandy and one of our babiesHi, I’m Mandy! I am a mum of two daughters born within the NHS system. Jade was born within a busy consultant unit, Jasmine at a Birth Centre. Although both births were memorable and precious, I can’t say that I had a truly fulfilling experience with either. At times I felt rushed, out of control and even scared. I went through many shift changes and different midwives. I feel passionately that with the same midwife, a full explanation of events, and an environment in which I felt at ease, my experiences would have been very different and more enjoyable.

I have worked in an integrated NHS system where every woman is allocated an “on call” community midwife to offer continuity during the labour/birth experience whether at home or in hospital. I rapidly became disillusioned because in my experience, a woman was very unlikely to be cared for by her named midwife as I worked in a rotational team of around 14 midwives who cared for hundreds of women between them. Nicky and I care for a maximum of around 10 women each a year, therefore offering true continuity.

The memories of giving birth stay with you for the rest of your life.  As your midwife I will make your birth experience and transition into parenthood a truly fulfilling and unique time for you. I’d like to get to know you and all your family, including the prospective grandparents, aunties, uncles, the dog, and even the guinea pig! I see my role as not only your midwife but your friend and advocate who will guide and support you. We then hope to see you all again if you choose to expand your family further!
